As the full season crawls to its end in a few weeks, I guess it's safe
now to come up with the definitive 5 best new shows that came on in
the past year. Unfortunately, the broadcast nets barely managed to
come up with half that number themselves, so I guess I have to resort
to cable series now to fill out the 5. So, insofaras the ones that
more or less really clicked with me this past year, we've got the
following, in alphabetical order:
Burn Notice
Nice to see Jeremy Donovan in a successful series since USA canned TOUCH OF
EVIL--and lighter fare. Comedy is so often dismissed when it comes to the
"best" in tv and especially movies.
Damages
Dexter
Smith
Oooh, almost, THE RICHES was a better show about thieves. However I favor
EUREKA which debuted last season. It's the closest thing to an sf anthology
show on air.
--- Could never get into The Riches - a little too domestic and not
enough intrigue, I found. It didn't really strike a chord with me.
Eureka seems like it should be more interesting than it is, but
something about that show doesn't quite come together for me. While I
wouldn't call either one a lost cause, they don't meet the criteria to
make my Top 5.
30 Rock
Funniest scene: "What am I, a farmer?"

Used to be a time when I could come up with 10 shows from just the Big
3 alone. But that's the way it goes these days.
Interesting how 2 of those selections are SUMMER series.
--- 2 are SUMMER and 3 are CABLE. Makes me wonder how I even got
through the whole season with the network stuff, especially since one
of the two network shows got cancelled in the 3rd week. Bleak, I tell
you ... really bleak.
