I want to say that I'm really enjoying this so far - the mystery
continues to deepen, as do the relationships between the characters.
I love Kyle and Amanda together - they are so, dare I say, sweet,
although I'm sure there will be pitfalls along the way.
And Jessie - poor little lost lamb. It's interesting (and
heartbreaking) to see how someone like Kyle tries to find her way
without anyone to love and care for her as a person instead of as a
means to an end.
So there's a touch of melodrama here and there (Andy's cancer?), it's
still a really enjoyable show with characters I care about.
I'm so glad they brought it back for a second season.
Me too. It's my favorite TV viewing right now.
I was skeptical that they could fill out a 22-episode season, but so
far (9 episodes in) they've made every one count, packing them with
character development, revelations, and plot advancement.
Jessie is indeed a tragic character. At the mercy of situations and
emotions that are totally new to her, and unequipped to handle them,
she's being terribly mistreated and has no support system. She's shown
signs of being able to learn, to understand remorse and empathy, but
I'm afraid anger is building up, too, and her story might end in
explosions and fire.
Agreed on both points, I was afraid there might not be enough gas for
22 eps, but so far, no slip in quality that I can see.
I was a little bored and unimpressed with Jessie initally, but they've
turned that around too in my eyes. They have indeed made her a tragic
figure, I do feel for her. It's an interesting depiction of the nature
vs. nurture argument, seeing how Kyle's bloomed into a fine young man
under the care of the Traegers and Jessie, with little support has
floundered.
Was it really the Traegers? Kyle seemed not to face a life-threatening
situation when he first hatched. Jesse didn't know her own strength.
Kyle got lucky.
The trouble with Jesse is the writers aren't Philip K. Dick and you just
know that they are going to screw up the implanted personality plot.
Even if I accept that the pods create a perfect educational environment
if the bodies are left to stew for (were they supposed to have been in
there for 15 years) years, I'm not willing to believe that, just because
the plot now demands it, they have technology to instantly implant
memories and create personality.
The kindness Kyle showed her I believe foreshadows a turning point for
Jessie.
They didn't mention if Jessie's been keeping her appointments with
Nicole since her reprogramming. I'm interested to see if Nicole
follows through with her threat to call ACS. (Although I'd point out
that Nicole is bound by law in most states to report suspected abuse
REGARDLESS if Jessie continues therapy or not.)
Since Jesse is older, is that really the law? She didn't really notice
any physical abuse.
One thing that's improved in the show: Nicole is less creepy this
season, less obsessed with Kyle, occassionally pays attention to her own
children and husband. But they transferred to the obsessed-with-Kyle
personality to the other teenage boy, sheesh.
Do we think that The Conspiracy bought out the husband's old corporation
just to get him fired?
