Maybe you're not old enough. :P

If only that were true.

TLC had medical shows (The Operation) for one.

Was that really particularly instructive?

Perhaps more instructive than watching small people live their lives,

I don't know about that. How much did you know about the subject
before? I've learned lots about dwarfism, including the different
types, challenges faced, etc.

Perhaps that is why the original poster talked
about putting TLC out of its misery, and I agree with him.

I think that's fairly nonsensical, as anything promulgated by RichA is
bound to be. Just because the programming doesn't seem to fit the
original premise, doesn't mean it's not worthwhile. If there aren't
programs you enjoy, then don't watch. That doesn't mean the channel
should be discontinued.

He makes sense in that post. Why 800 channels all showing the same stuff? If
400 channels suddenly went off the air, it wouldn't matter very much to me
as a viewer.

There are lots of things I don't watch, including whole channels, but
I'm not self-centered enough to think that just because they don't fit
some abstract pattern they should be done away with.

I'm not self centered either, but there's nothing wrong with wondering why a
station loses its focus and shows similar content just like many other
channels. Is imitation better than innovation? Yep. Must be.

It was more science and aviation oriented.

Eh, maybe, but nothing particularly memorable (to me anyway). And
I'm a science and engineering guy.

So am I. But I recall once those type of shows aired on specific
channels and were more 'memorable and watchable' 10 years ago.

There's lots of that sort of thing on Discovery Science. Tonight or
tomorrow there's some Mars-oriented ones I'll be checking out.

There's a lot more hard core science in on the internet as well, just a
google search away. Not the softened, E-Z stuff on TV.
