Thought that while the ending ep had some good moments, it was overall ho-hum. Lukewarm quality.
Speaking of the season as a whole, 60 depended too much on a certain political and 'moral' stance to support its identity. It wasn't enough. For me it detracted, because I saw it as smug and self-righteous much of the time; there were few real attempts at even-handedness among the false shows of fairness.
The acting was good, the sets just fine, the photography and everything else tight, but in the end I just wasn't interested in being preached to, didn't want political commentary, hatred and venting. I didn't want to be 'improved' by the characters.
The show got off to a bad start with some of the unfunny skits, which detracted from its credibility.
Studio 60 was supposed to be about producing a hit comedy show, so you would expect to see bits and pieces (at least) of truly funny sketches and skits. And also it's hard to believe that comedy writers are as constantly serious about their work as the political staff on West Wing was. They're supposed to have a great sense of humor, so you would more, at least when producing the show. It's not like being on the staff in the White House during an international crisis.
With any serialized show, it's vital to set the mood and grab the audience in the first couple of episodes. Had Sorkin hired a great comedy writer to write some truly hilarious internal skits just for the pilot (premiere episode) that would have had the audience rolling in the aisles, it would have been more believable and brought the contrast with the backstage drama better.
