THAT'S different from "being fired".

Only in the most pedantic sense. If
contract renewal is routine and
expected, then not having your contract
renewed is effectively the same as
being fired.

Is contract renewal routine and expected
in this type of situation?

Most of the time regulars stay on a show. Cast
changes are news, not routine.

You obviously don't watch "24".

You forget that 24 only has one regular. Everyone
else, even Chloë, is a guest star.

Seriously? Because the opening of each show doesn't say one way or the
other. It implies however that there are a certain core set of
characters. The first group, including Sutherland, is just listed by
name with no notation. The rest are listed as "guest stars".

Maybe he means that there is only one character/actor that is
indispensable, though many might disagree even with that. In that
sense, Jack/Keifer is the star, the only regular, and all others are
"guests".

I'm wondering, is there anybody else that has appeared in all seasons?

Just one: Jack's faithful Man-Bag of Power

Has he always stuck with his trusty Sig-Sauer? I know he cheats on her
with every hot little piece that he can get his hands, but doesn't he
always go home to her?

Considering he's started several seasons either on the run or just
returned from hostile custody, it's hard to believe he's had the same
gun all along...
