Fred Thompson isn't exactly an actor who suddenly decided to try
politics; he was a Republican Senator from Tennessee for close to a

member of the United States-China Economic and Security Review
Commission and a Visiting Fellow with the American Enterprise Institute,
researching national security and intelligence.

(from wiki)

If he becomes a serious candidate, will there be restrictions on
broadcast of shows he was on? Law & Order reruns is a major cash cow
(the USA network should rename itself the L&O network.)

Anyway, some years ago an actor of the Love Boat ran for congress. I
heard they couldn't show Love Boat reruns during that time. Likewise,
I heard when Reagan ran for office, they didn't show his old movies.

Do those kinds of restrictions still apply to broadcasting old
television shows? Is there a 'fairness' or "equal time" requirement?

Thanks.
