In my own case, I have begun to immediately change channels or turn off
the TV when annoyed by a pop up. I watch TV to have an enjoyable and
entertaining experience. When intrusive ads destroy that experience, my
reflex is to shut it off. It's not worth it to me to have dialog or a
third of the screen obscured by animation.
I used watch A&E a great deal. Because of their humungous logo and popups I
stopped watching it for the most part. Of course the scourge has spread to
just about all channels so what choice?
What's really annoying is they use popups on premium channels that I pay
extra for to have no commercials.
The state of the technology is such that I am very close to getting rid of
cable and getting all of the content I desire from the internet.
Via internet has the advantage that no matter what protection the content
has there is always a hack to get around it.
There's also another advantage that I've run into. Some of the
channels in other nations that air some of the USA show either have no
bugs or their in locations and of the size and color that they are
much less obnoxious. I think that was the case with the "Hustle" eps I
downloaded long before they aired in the USA.
