Now that both UPN and WB are winding themselves
down into extinction, the question that should be
asked is: were they even worth being on the air over
the last 11 years? Going over all their lineups, I've
only been able to come across 7 UPN shows and 7
WB shows that were of any kind of worth or appeal
in creative or entertaining terms.

That's your choice, but I suspect that most readers of this newsgroup
will disagree with you. I see that you've left off many top shows for
both networks, as well the shows that made a hit with the critics. No
mention of "Nowhere Man" or "Veronica Mars" for UPN? I agree the
network hasn't had great luck with shows, but they did better than you
suggest. I can say that most of the shows that are on your list I
didn't even try to watch, while I suspect that many of my favorites
from those networks (things like "Charmed", "Angel", and "Veronica
Mars") wouldn't make it on your list of shows that you've watched even
a few times.

I started to come up with my own list but I couldn't find a good list
of shows that were aired by UPN and the WB.

Objectivity is not one of WQ's attributes.

WQ states an opinion on the networks, then justifies it with "his"
ratings.

--- Well, *whose* ratings am I going to justify it with?

I can't dispute his "findings" since the only show I watch on UPN or
WB is Smackdown. Since this show is expected to continue on The CW,
it must be watched by a sufficient number of viewers.

--- It's not about numbers or popularity, it's about which shows worked
best in realizing their premise without boring or sickening one to
tears.

So, why should anyone find your opinion "...about which shows worked
best in realizing their premise..." worthwhile? What qualifies you to
make those judgements.

--- Because unlike you, I've watched the UPN and WB shows. Not to
mention about 55,000 other hours of TV since the 60s, and never mind
all the time spent watching movies in theaters. I think that sort of
adds up to having figured out what makes a series work or doesn't. I
don't think you can get to that point if all you do is watch Smackdown.

I don't watch "boring or sickening" shows. Why should I care which
programs you don't find "boring or sickening"?

--- You don't have to. But if you're responding to this thread, then
on some level you do care.

As other posters noted, you missed a few of the most watched
WB and UPN shows.

--- It's not about "most watched" shows. It's about the execution of
the premise of a series. It's about which shows in and of themselves
work in creative or entertaining terms, regardless of popularity. For
example, I recognize Smallville as an excellently produced series, but
the execution of its premise is a failure. For those viewers who watch
it, they don't to seem to care and that's fine. But in and of the show
itself, separate and removed from anything else about it, the premise
just needlessly drags out the story in too pedestrian a fashion and
that just simply bores me. It's too bad, because otherwise I'd
probably watch the show if they did it right.

Your "opinion" was stated clearly in the subject of this thread.
The letter grades are redundant.

--- Just want to make sure there's no misunderstanding of where I stand
on them.
