Re: Pam Anderson's Comedy Central Roast (sick, riveting, translucent, braless, nauseating, funny)

I finally got around to seeing this (the 105-minute version from the first
night, not the 90-minute version aired subsequently -- maybe the extra time
was used for more Girls Gone Wild commercials, I don't know) and even after
reading this review was still shocked at how hard these jokes were,
particularly by Jeffrey Ross and Sarah Silverman. This is not your father's
roast. It was the most vicious thing, perhaps, that I've ever seen on
commercial television.
Curiously, the first half hour or so had more than its share of Bea Arthur
jokes, with the 82 year-old actress present and who later participated by
reading a couple obscene passages from Pam Anderson's "book." I realize Bea
is hard-edged -- she played Maude, after all -- but I still don't undertand
her connection to Pam Anderson or why she'd want to subject herself to this
kind of thing at her age. I see she participated in a Friars Club roast of
Jerry Stiller in 1999, but that must have been Victorian by comparison.
