Note the words "Nearest Netflix Shipping Facility" in the
return address. I waited two days for a DVD delivery from the
East coast and the return envelope had an East coast address.
When I returned the DVD, the e-mail acknowledgement indicated
a next day receipt. That DVD wasn't delivered to the address
printed on the return mailer.

All the DVDs received here have the barcode visible in the
envelope backside window, but when returned "Netflix" or
a red line appears in that window.

Your name/address doesn't appear anywhere on the return mailer
and the bar code doesn't identify you. There is no need to read the
barcode before the envelope is destroyed. I suspect the return
mailers are opened with automation devices and the process
will read either side of the sleeve and may "flip" the sleeve.

The barcode is probably read at the time of addressing,
when the front of the envelope is printed. A software database
will have a DVD serial number associated with the customer
information. The process is likely to be automated.
