Dave:
I'm actually enjoying Y&R these days. As I've said before, I think it's
gotten a lot better now that the 2 doppleganger arcs are over and done with
(will be even better once Patty and Emily are gone for good). To me, Y&R
has always had ups and downs in terms of storytelling. There have always
been stories that really really sucked. It's not as if this suddenly
started happenning recently (though granted there have been more of then in
recent years). I do think it's getting better though. There are a few new
characters that have a lot of potential (imo) like Tucker, Ronan, Sofia,
(and a noted return of Diane Jenkins though I have no idea who this recast
actress is). My point being...I'm pretty much in for the long haul but I
don't mind because like I said, I'm enjoying it.
More power to ya, if you are enjoying and "in for the long haul".
That's cool.
But I don't buy the "Y&R has always had ups and downs" comparison as a
way of rationalizing today's dismal offerings. The "ups and downs" of
yesteryear were NOTHING like the continuous parade of ridiculously far-
fetched plots, major historical rewrites, and overall negativity of
ALL the characters today. It's true, there were bombs on occasion
throughout Y&R's lengthy history ... but if the overall quality of
storytelling had been THIS bad throughout, Y&R would never have
achieved and maintained the high level of success it had.
