Don't leave, stay. I find this newsgroup to be an efficient way to
keep in touch, rather than a bunch of emails that say essentially the
same thing to all of my friends.

I'll see........I just don't want to be cluttering the newsgroup with a
bunch of OT posts

maybe I'll start some GL Retro threads :)

There are so many old GL clips online these days that we could do it
like a book club, suggesting a particular series of clips or
storyline, then analyze it.

All good ideas........I was watching various openings and was delighted to
finally see the 1974 opening once again!

Wow. I never saw that one. I've watched since, well, as far back as I
can remember anything in life, but I was 12 in 1974 and in school, so
I probably only watched when I was home from school or in the summer.
My mother and grandmother were into ATWT and GL, but my father got
hooked on EON during a recovery and the whole family got into that
show.

Side note: My father now denies really watching it, but we all
reminded him that he rigged up a tape recorder set on tape and pause,
to start recording the audio and we'd listen to it at dinner. How did
the tape recorder know when to start recording, you ask? Well, he ran
a cord from the recorder through the living room, around the corner to
the kitchen and attached it to the over timer. Yeah, Dad, you weren't
a fan at all. ;-)

The next opening was the one I first really remember, when I would
come home from school only to have my brother grab me and say, "You've
GOT to watch this show with me. This Roger guy is amazing!" He was, of
course, also harboring a crush on Rita. He, too, denies, denies,
denies. Silly boys.

Here is the 1978 version of that great opening:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ayS8kxojs4&feature=related

I think my first memory of the show was Roger and Peggy's
relationship. I like the way they introduced Roger as an ambitious guy
who was frustrated by his inability to be successful as quickly as he
wanted and constantly criticized by his father BEFORE he became
violent. The rapes were the eruption of anger that had been building
for quite some time. As shocking as Holly's rape, in particular, was,
we saw Roger unspooling daily, becoming more and more paranoid and
jealous, so in that sense, it wasn't out of left field. Nowdays, they
introduce a character as a bad guy, then try to redeem him somehow.

I have a bag full of tapes of GL from the start of the Prince what's
his name.
My memory isn't very good anymore. The love story of him with Reva
and
then her sister Cassie went to the Island and fell in love with the
Prince.
Someone was taping many soap shows and was selling them. I stoped
buying
them when the story was no longer on the Island and the prince died.
I'll have to watch these again.

I stopped watching GL and ATWT about 1 1/2 years ago and just watched
some
of GL this week to see the end. How different these people look after
not seeing
them all this time.
