So WoST seems like a dinosaur to us now, but there was a time when its
content was unprecedented. I'll never forget the joy it brought to
people to see things they never thought they'd see again. Now that
YouTube rules, it'll be hard for somebody reading this message in 2039
and understanding the impact thatwww.wost.orghadon thousands of
people. But imagine being a soap fan in 1980 and finding the Leaves
theme of Guiding Light on the internet in 2000, for the first time in
twenty years. The quality was ***, the resolution 160x120 pixels,
and the audio was noisy, but it was something you didn't remember
until you saw. WoST will be forgotten quickly as it's been obsolete
for years now and the owner and most of the membership at the end were
freaking nuts, but it was quite the website in the day and really
impacted the soap community.
I'm really grateful to Brian, less-than-stable though he may be, for
putting the site together in the first place and putting it online. As
you noted, for a while there, it was pure joy.
I'd love to know what it is about certain kinds of websites,
especially soap websites, that seems to dictate that they must,
absolutely must, degenerate into hysteria and lunacy and fanaticism.
It's pathological.

Yeah, I'm a huge Big Brother fan, but there's basically nowhere online
for me to post about the show. http://www.jokersupdates.com was the
best for years and years, and now they're all certifiable. And the
official website is of course populated by idiots (official forums
ALWAYS are, that's like another unspoken web forum rule.)
