Wait a sec - didn't Karen say her mother died of ovarian cancer, which
is why she had the [preventative] hysterectomy? If the whole idea of
the hysterectomy was to prevent ovarian cancer, wouldn't they have
done an oomphectomy (removal of the ovaries)? I mean, otherwise, what
would be the point?

I think we're all using Karen's description of her surgery - she is the one who said "hysterectomy". It is interesting that most women have removal of the uterus and not the ovaries; whereas dogs and cats have the removal of the uterus and the ovaries routinely.
