Re: OT- What? No Posts About Palin's Speech?

All I watch is SoapNet, Bravo, and the Simpsons. Why would I comment on
this? And why would I comment on it*here*?

So...what's the verdict, people?

I was SO hoping, that with almost a week of people expressing concerns
about experience and qualifications, THAT would be the focus of her
first big speech. It wasn't, but ... how COULD it be?

In my opinion, she focused on 3 things: (1) her family; (2) blasting
Obama; and (3) McCain.

I expected that she would introduce her family, but I thought there was
WAY, WAY too much focus and time spent there. I couldn't care less about
how and when she and her husband met, etc., etc., etc. -- if I want to
know about all that, I can Google and read her bio -- this speech was
not the place for THAT MUCH rhetoric about her family (IMO).

Although she didn't say anything we didn't already know about McCain, it
was fitting that she would sing his praise, and I expected that. The
story that had his fellow POW choked up was touching, but again, we know
and respect that he survived being a POW. Still not sure how that
translates into a Presidential qualification, but I suppose if it was
enough to secure a few more votes, it was worth telling.

I personally was put off by HOW MUCH TIME she spent leading us down path
after path just to deliver dig after dig after dig at their opponent.
I'd rather she would have spent that time telling us what HER views are
on some of the important points Biden enumerated this morning as being
missing from her speech. I want to be convinced based on her/their
merit, not on how many cleverly worded digs to their opponent her speech
writers can create. I have flipped off talk radio on many occasions too,
when instead of letting both sides make valid points, callers presenting
a valid POV for the other side are cut-off mid-sentence just so the host
can bash-bash-bash, unchallenged. That said, I realize some people LIKE
that style. Maybe you get more votes that way, but to me, THAT much
jabbing looks like an obvious filler when there isn't enough of your own
meritorious material to talk about.

I sent a brief email to Ch. 5 this morning, part of which they read on
the air! :-) They read another written by a woman who said that Palin
doesn't stand for ANYTHING she believes in, but that she HAS to vote for
her *because she's a woman* and women have worked hard to get this far.
I cannot BELIEVE my ears when I hear stuff like that, and there is
simply no point in debating that kind of twisted logic.

The one good thing is that people who have been indifferent and
apathetic over the last several decades are coming out of the woodwork
to see and hear this. The unscripted debates should be interesting, to
say the least.
