And
what's up with the ultra-quick honeymoon? Wedding on Friday-Monday,
off to Paris Monday, back to GC by Friday?
<snip>
Ackshully, one of our client's (who has money running out both ears)
got married weekend before last. Rented out the Kodak Theater in Los
Angeles for it. Very eccentric guy, to say the least (the wedding
announcements looked like playbills and the reception menu was so
tongue in cheek that it took my table of 8 a while to realize it was a
joke). Anyway, it's turned into a very busy summer for them and us, so
he went on a "mini-honeymoon" to Cabo St. Lucas, to be followed by a
month traveling to Bora Bora, New Zealand, etc. in the fall. While it
doesn't look as if Victor's going to follow up with a bigger
honeymoon, I've been around enough hot shots of the caliber to know
that most of them tend their businesses as if no one else has a
working pair of brain cells and wouldn't want to leave it in
subordinates' hands for long.
BTW, this client has a Bentley on which he has removed all Bentley
insignia and replaced it with Hyundai logos. Swear to God and I have
the picture to prove it <g>
Zara: Tiresome. Finola might have made it a little more interesting,
but maybe not.
The writers got a bit hamfisted with this character, IMHO. They were
figuratively bashing us over the head with her inappropriate behavior.
Adam: Who was it who was complaining about this actor? Was that Nelson
from TVGuide Canada? What's the problem? I don't see it. Adam's
actually interesting while not being especially likable, and somehow
all the contradictions in the character work. That's not an easy thing
to pull off.
I agree - the actor is doing a great job. He is able to telegraph very
subtle facial expressions. And the writers are playing the character
just right, IMHO, which means they'll screw it up sooner or later.
The thing with Karen was silly; you can tell these
writers don't work in a real job. Very few employers these days would
not jump at the chance to hire back an employee with an excellent
track record unless the departure was in some way acrimonious. She
requires no training and can hit the ground running: No sensible
company would have any hesitation about hiring her again, because
there's no additional investment and the possibility of her leaving
again involves no real risk and costs them nothing.
Karen isn't working for me this time around for some reason. And I
always liked the actor, as well as the character.
oing it that I can't. But that's Neil.
Devon's aunt and cousin: The aunt is gorgeous; what beautiful eyes she
has. The cousin is supposed to warm my heart with her adorableness,
and the actress is very good and obviously quite talented, but I am
already sick of how everybody just *adores* her on first meeting. In
fact, how everybody but Neil just adores Devon's aunt and cousin
automatically as they waltz back into his life unannounced doesn't
strike me as especially realistic.
Why does this pair just *scream* "con" to me?
Chloe: This was the biggest puzzle of the week--what is her PROBLEM?
Is she secretly in love with Lily? Is she just a gloomy gus spoilsport
for the sake of being a gloomy gus spoilsport? Why is she being such a
PIA 24/7?
She'll do about anything to be around Cane and she'd be more than
happy to throw Lily under the bus to do so. What a manipulative
bee-atch!
Jana-Kevin: Wedding, white dress, red dress, China, scream at people,
concert in Dublin, can't go, new job . . . ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Although
Jana is somewhat less annoying than before.
Actually, I liked the oddity of the character before. Now, she's just
plain old same old.
Jill: Back to being her old unpleasant self, I see, with any shades
of warmth or humanity that might have emerged previously now drained
from the character.
Katherine and Amber and the memoirs: Why?
I have this notion that TPTB are setting up the actress to retire
(which I would hate - love, love, love Katherine) and exit the
character. OTOH, they haven't referenced the memoirs in a while, so
this may be another dropped storyline. The writers seem to be bringing
Katherine more front and center than during the early "memoirs"
storyline. <shrug>
Jack dreaming of being back at Jabot: This I liked, especially Jill as
the receptionist.
I *loved* this! Jack didn't deserve losing Jabot - this was on Gloria
(Queenie, shaddup! I know! I know!), but Jack didn't have clean hands,
either.
Nikki-David: Nikki's actions with respect to David gave me whiplash
trying to keep up with her.
My whiplash had more to do with David than Nikki. She was trying to
cope with Chow summarily dumping her b/c he said he "loved gambling
more than he loved" her, then came dragging back, begging forgiveness
and, gee, so sorry, I was wrong. I love you more than...ick! Ick, ick!
And this is on top of Victor calling her every name in the book,
denigrating everything about her - jaysus! It's a wonder the writers
don't have whiplash trying to keep up with Nikki, Chow, Victor,
Sabrina...
<snip>
Brad: What's Brad's beef with David that he's pushing David's
gambling? Did David steal his reliquary or something?
Got me - my only idea is that Brad's character is the only one on the
landscape who is "available" to do such a duty. Who else are they
gonna use? Brad's character sure isn't doing anything lately, and he
has a history of being really sketchy.
Michael: I'm glad they've finally picked up the diary thing again
after LML dropped it. Pity they had to saddle Michael with another
criminal relative, but I guess it runs in the family.
Yahbut - what did I miss in the nexus between New Orleans and the
(Detroit?) father/parent/whatsit? I only started watching Y&R about 3
years ago, so I'm a little light on background.

on everything, and then leaves.
