I used to post these all the time. "Where I would take the story from

used to enjoy these posts from my twisted imagination.
Some of these are utterly *inspired.* God how I wish GL (or some show--
any show, please) would start having storylines with this kind of
depth and resonance. It would make soaps . . . worth watching again.
First off...Harley and Josh. Several of us want this. Here is how I
would get us there. It IS going to come out that Cassie slept with
Cyrus. No way it can't. That is going to absolutely destroy Harley.
She is mourning Gus, she hurt Marina, Cassie is her best friend...she
is going to be blown away.
At the same time, this actress is asking tons of questions about
Reva's life. Now, she is digging in Josh's past. Let her start asking
LOTS of questions about the time after Reva went off the bridge. Cause
you know what, since she came back...we have never dealt with it. Josh
searched for her. Josh pined for her. But Josh fell in love with
Harley until he saw what looked like Reva on a videotape. When Reva
returned, Josh was with Annie. We never revisited the horror he went
thru and how close to happy he was with Harley. She is devestated...he
is being constantly reminded of how he healed from losing Reva in
Harley's arms. Let's do it right, let's do it slow and let's do it.
You are SO right. We have NEVER dealt with "Reva Shayne: The Missing
Years." And in any real universe, first would have been relief, joy,
elation, etc.--but then eventually the anger, irritation, abandonment,
all of that would have had to come out too, along with how happy
people were to have her back. But we never saw *any* of that, as I
remember. Just "Reva comes back and the writers turn Annie into a
neurotic nut case to justify putting Reva and Josh back together." Or
the alternate version: "Josh treats another woman like used kleenex in
his pursuit of Reva and 'Always'." (thank you, Dana, for that
perennially useful insight).
And having Josh realize he blew it by rushing off to find RevaAlways,
and making amends to Harley (and really succeeding at doing so), and
overcoming her skepticism and unwillingness to believe in him a second
time, and really making it work and really leaving Reva and Always
behind, would go miles toward redeeming Josh, who, I'm sorry, has been
tiresome, if not actively repulsive, for years.
Now, Cassie...sorry if she has fans here, I am over her. I don't
dislike the actress, I just find the character boring now. I would
like to see her and Cyrus leave together.
I could see them both leave. I think Cassie has been an utterly
preposterous character for years. I think Laura Wright made her work,
most of the time, barely. I don't think Nicole Forrester does, but I
don't know that it's her fault. So yes, Cassie can go.
It would be a pity to lose an actor with the magnetism and "It Factor"
that the actor playing Cyrus has, but I see no place good or
interesting to go with him, so I say write Cyrus out and send the
actor over to As the World Turns to play a recast Simon or maybe a new
character.
Reva...I know, people want her to leave. I don't. I just want her to
have story that says something. She had brilliant chemistry with Tom
Pelphrey. Find an actor who has that same spark with her and bring
Shane back. And have him come out. ATWT can do it, so can GL. We all
thought Marty West was the gay Shane, let's do the damn thing. Reva's
total acceptance is out measured by her grief that he waited THIS long
to come out to her. And Shane's response to her? "Well, Mom...where
were you? You were too busy being 'REVA' to be my Mom. And
besides..it's my fault you went over that bridge. You were in
depression caused by MY birth." C;mon, let's explore the real emotion
of what happens when you Mom freakin dies and then it turns out that
you are partially responsible. And she keeps coming back. And her main
focus in life when she comes back? The kid she had while she was
dead? Hire the right actor, this is a gold mine.
You're *so* right. I *love* this. There's two or three years of story
right there, and it's all character-based and history-based. Hello,
Ellen Wheeler? P&G? Barbie Bloom?
I need Rick on the damn screen. He is the only damn Bauer left that
means anything to me, and this is a show about the Bauers...from the
freaking start almost. I grew up with Bert and Mike and Ed...we can't
get them back, but we have Rick and he is still cute, still funny,
still brilliant. So, let's explore the fact the he finally, finally
got the girl. Beth came to him in the long run, after losing to
Phillip for eons. And what happens? She does it with ALAN? EEEWWWWW?
Ron Raines may be a nice guy, but this Alan is skeevy. Alan has played
by Chris Burneau? I would have gone there. This Alan? Rick has to be
outraged, and we get stupid brief scenes of that, but tons of Alan and
Beth scenes? No. I need to watch Rick and Beth work this out. I need
to see her explain and work thru her issues. I need her to realize ON
SCREEN that being raped by Bradley made her unable to appreciate a
GOOD man. And Rick struggle to remain a good man, knowing how she
feels.
See above. Character-based, history-based, and, oh, just incidentally,
actually INTERESTING. Somebody needs to do something to rescue the
character of Beth and make her viable again, because she's become an
uninteresting mess, and even the parts of her that might be
interesting, they don't explore. (Hello? Abandoned by daddy/abused by
stepdaddy and now you're hung up on your true love's father? And
nobody seems to find that worth remarking upon, much less getting you
into serious psychotherapy?)
And let's get Leah on the screen. Why can't we have Leah a little
older and hanging with Ashley and Daisy? I LOVE Ashley and Daisy. Add
Leah to that mix by aging her just a tiny bit and we have a start of a
new generation of Bauers.
Remember when 13-ish Susan (aka Daisy) used to run around with 18-/19-
ish Marah, Sam, and Tony? Leah wouldn't really have to be aged all
that much to make this work.
Oh and speaking of Sam: GET THAT CONTRACT WRITTEN AND SIGN WES RAMSEY
NOW, BEFORE HE CHANGES HIS MIND!
There have to be other kids to bring into
the mix,
How about Maureen? She should be older than Leah, right? Do we ever
actually see her? I was watching recently and Vanessa called to her
off stage, but does she ever actually show up in the flesh?
but why not have Rafe start to fall for Leah? And have his
Mom not approve, not because she is bi racial, but because she is a
tiny bit too young for him and in a social class above his. Nat is
totally class conscious and reverse snob. Work that.
Natalie...love him and Frank. I have loved Frank forever,
I used to love Frank, and I still appreciate his uprightness, but he's
written as such a sour, dour prissypants that I can't exactly love him
anymore. But I could love him again.
why can't we
have a story for him, thanks? Being in Gus's shadow both with his
sister and the woman he is falling for? Struggling with Rafe who
thinks he could never understand him but then finds out that Frank had
a street past? Bonding with a man who is not your father while trying
to mourn him? This is deep stuff. Let's see it.
I need Holly back. I just do.
We all do. What Maureen Garrett brought to this show is sorely missed
and sorely needed. Holly and Olivia used to be best buds, and when
you're Olivia, you need all the friends you can get. Start there. (And
Blake *always* needs her mother around.)
I remember a show called Life Goes On
with a down's syndrome boy in it. There has to be a teenage girl
actress with down's. Probably lots of em, wishing someone would DO
SOMETHING to give them work. Let's do that. Let's have Fletcher come
back to town to raise his now teenage daughter, who has her hopes set
on her parents reuniting. Only to find that her fairy tale image of
her Mother is skewed and her Mother really is a flawed person, altho
her Father never let on to that. We bring the couple back togethr
slowly, examining the past thru the view of a daughter who was led to
believe that Mom and Dad just grew apart.
This crap with Matt and Vanessa is just that. Crap. We bring them back
JUST to character assasinate them? We have Matt sleep with Vanessa's
daughter? No, this needs fixing. So, we need to see lots of Vanessa
and Matt as we explore the fact that their age difference really did
catch up with them. Not because of Matt, but because of Van. She grew
more and more distant believing that there was no way he could still
find her as desirable as before. And how did he respond? By going to a
younger version of her, Dinah. But he only did this at the end of his
rope and still in love with Vanessa. Look at Juliet Mills and Maxwell
Caulfield! A relationship between an older woman and a younger man can
last. If they work their way back together. And since shows love
triangles (I don't, notice I come up with lots of ideas not reliant on
them) have Vanessa struggling with also having feelings for Billy
again. She has TWO loves of her life right there. Use that.
Somebody said at some point within the last decade or so (maybe it was
Michael Logan of TVGuide) that he'd like to see a moratorium on
triangles for a few years. I would agree with that if only to force
the writers to come up with some new, more interesting ideas.
I don't object to triangles; I do object to *everything* being a
triangle. I like your idea about exploring Vanessa's feelings for
Billy. If I'm remembering the chronology right, Vanessa fell in love
with Matt while Billy was away in prison, and then Billy got out and
came back and Vanessa was with Matt, and the show never really
explored what Vanessa's feelings for Billy were. I agree with you: it
should, now.
Doris and Buzz. I don't need to say more, and it wasn't my idea, but I
would run with it.
Blake....falls for Alan while working with Coop to write a book Alan's
fall from power and struggle to get his fortune back. For the first
time in ages, someone really honesting has feelings for Alan and sees
the good in him and knows the bad places cause she has been there
herself. Can Alan not blow it?
Ashley begins think Blake is into Coop because of the long hours and
her insecurities. Coop gets tired of defending his feelings for her,
and she has get therapy to help with her issues and keep Coop.
Blake's been down the Alan road. I don't necessarily want to see her
go there again.
I also think Alan is at this point unredeemable. Too many awful deeds
and too much inconsistency in writing the character over the years.
Josh struggles with his son's coming out, and his position has a
member of the clergy.
Harley thinks he HAS to support Shane no matter what.
The actor hired to play Josh in the movie finally shows and is gay and
into Shane...but Shane is freaked out by dating a guy who is going to
play his Dad.
That's hilarious. "I love you but every time I think of having sex
with you, I see my dad and get all totally freaked out."
Olivia finally gets over herself and finds that Gus's heart has
changed her. And in her struggle with newfound niceness...she betrays
Ava by letting Bill know that Ava used a sperm donor.
I'd support anything for Olivia that involves her not spitting venom
24/7. Seven or eight years ago she was much more well-rounded as a
character; in the last five years she's just lost so much dimension.
Crystal Chappell is too good to waste on such a limited character.
Dinah can't stand that Blake is with the man Dinah feels killed Ross.
Dinah vows to tear them apart or make Blake suffer.
That's it for now. Have a favorite character I left out, mention em
and I will find an idea for em. Let me know what you all thnk, good or
bad, I can take it.LOL
I think some of your ideas are nothing short of brilliant, and even
the ones I'm less enthusiastic about are still more interesting than
the stories being told now.
Michael
