Have you thought about filtering via IP?

Don't some of these folks use lots of different IPs too?
Yes, as well as forged addresses from legitimate people. Personally, I
don't apply any filters when reading newsgroups. The troublemakers are
just too elusive for that to be effective, so for me, it's simpler to
just "manually" ignore them.
What I'm more concerned about is people using too many filters,
triggered by the sporgers, so that they're unintentionally filtering
away valid posts as well. I don't care if someone dislikes my rants
about Cricket or whatever and filters me away, but I don't want to be
silenced because of fraudulent posts that I didn't write.
I value everyone's legitimate contribution to RATSC, even if I don't
agree with them. The newsgroup will surely suffer from loss of dialog,
even if only some people are filtering away some of the valid posters.
I don't want the sporgers to succeed in damaging our newsgroup that
way.
Elmer
