Wouldn't Nick's ability to love
Summer be hampered by his knowledge that Jack is her real father? We've
never seen one iota of anything but pure, fatherly love from Nick where
Summer is concerned. You'd think if she was Jack's flesh and blood, it
would taint Nick's relationship with her.
On Bell soaps, your logic is correct. "Blood" always seems to trump
everything else. B&B drove me nuts with this years ago...Ridge
thought he was Bridget's daddy...but when a second paternity test
revealed she was Eric's daughter, Ridge dumped Bridget AND her mother
instantly. So, too, years ago, when Victor discovered that Victoria
was really his daughter (and not Kevin Bancroft's), he suddenly cared
about the child and her mother.
But, in my life, once I had committed to be a father to a child, that
would be FOR LIFE...blood ties be damned. Nothing, nothing, nothing
would turn those fatherly feelings off. I hate those real-life baby
switch stories, where they take the child from the only family she has
ever known and place the child with the "birth" parents. How
hurtful. How wrong.
Remember this, too, about Nick. Do you have ANY doubt that he was a
full father to Cassie? Has he not shown that her death rocked his
world? But he didn't share a DROP of blood with Cassie. Sharon made
that baby when she was a wayward teenager.
So Nick--whose chief paternal tie as a boy was with JACK--and who
loved Cassie like his OWN--and who explicitly wanted another daughter
because he was missing Cassie so (remember ghost-Cassie visiting Nick
and telling him he would have another daughter...then Summer came
along)...Nick would have NO concerns about blood. Nick has proven
that he is MUCH MORE of a man than that! When Nick loves, he feels
responsibility....no matter what an eventual blood test will show,
Nick will always be a daddy to Summer.
In that sense, Brad is equally honorable. He doesn't have any genetic
investment in Abby, but who can doubt that he's the only REAL father
Abby knows. Sure, Victor was the unknowing sperm donor, but Brad is
her real dad, and nothing will ever change that.
So, here are my wishes:
a. Nick didn't switch the paternity test. He's too honorable for
that.
b. But, IF HE DID (I literally PRAY he didn't!), he can't remember
his motivations for doing so (which is a good thing). But, once the
initial dust settles, IT WON'T MATTER. Phyllis and Nick will still
love each other, and Nick will still love Summer.
c. The only storm cloud might be Jack, who will claim to want to
father the child (yeah...like he's fathered Keemo and Kyle...like he
cares). But I don't want this to affect--for an instant--how Phyllis
and Nicholas feel about each other. They are the hottest couple on
daytime.
That brings up a spoiler

Brian Frons is reportedly considering a spinoff of Y&R for Soapnet,
kind of like GH's Night Shift last summer. If so, he wants to center
it around Phyllis, Nick and Sharon. If it is like Night Shift, it
would basically be a 10- or 13-episode standalone mini-series.
I don't know how they would do it, without disturbing the time flow of
Y&R. Frons talks about setting the show in an "alternate
reality"...which I don't fully get, but you know me...I'll go with the
flow.
Even more interesting, Frons says he is discussing this possibility
with BILL BELL JR.
Not Sony. Not CBS. Bill Bell Jr.!!!!!
Oh you know what kind of hopes this gives me, right? That the Bells
are taking control of their creative property again. But I read too
much optimism into these kinds of things :-).
