Y&R Rant/Musings

(I originally typed a header, "Musings," but it turned into a rant.
Never post after 2 glasses of chardonnay and staring a Monday morning
fire drill at work down the throat.)

A couple of things occurred to me while watching this past week:

Where's Phyllis getting her clothes and jewelry? Is Daniel or Nick
bringing this stuff from home? If so, when's the last time your SO
could pick clothes out of your wardrobe and match it with shoes,
purse, jewelry, etc.? Just askin'

And as concerns Paul, Heather needs to put on her big girl panties and
deal with it. Yes, this was a shock. Yes, the writers did a horrible
job by dropping this bomb in the smallest possible time frame. But the
idea that Paul was someone she's known and trusted her whole life, who
has been a comfort to her and her mother, should buy Paul some street
cred. I just can't buy the level of animosity here - and it has little
to do with Vail Bloom's acting (although I'm hoping she'll grow into
the part, as so far, she's pretty one-dimensional, IMHO).

Neal needs to get his act together. This approach/avoidance thing with
Karen is soooo unfair to Karen. OTOH, I have heard it said that after
the end of a marriage (either through divorce or death) the remaining
spouse should wait at least 2 years before trying to start a
relationship with someone else.

And would someone please get Lily to put on *her* big girl panties? I
can understand a 12 year old girl being upset/possessive of her
bereaved father and a potential girlfriend, but between the Karen
hostility and the Cane attraction, the writers have regressed this
character to a bubble headed Valley girl, instead of the evolving
stable woman she had been since she and Daniel set up housekeeping. I
like that Lily *so* much better.

And when Michael found out that Paul had spilled the beans to Heather,
his reaction (in front of Lauren) was to go ballistic and scream that
Paul was "going to bring us all down" was just brilliant, Counselor.
His wife is having panic attacks at the mere *reminder* of Sheila and
Michael is throwing a hissy fit and warning of dire consequences with
an emotionally fragile wife within hearing. Good goin', Mikey.

An' that's another thin', Loosey - I do not like seeing Lauren as a
fragile flower. This is utterly stupid. Yeah, yeah, she's been
traumatized by Sheila and yada yada, but we were seeing Lauren as
tough as hell when locked in the dungeon-whatever-it-was and again
when she went to that retirement home to find Phyllis, Fen and Summer.
Yeah, she was shaky, but she was also determined. This panic attack
fragility needs to be *done*

And will someone please send Jana off to a quiet mental institution,
like in the Ukraine? This whole bonzo thing with Kevin reestablishing
his romance with her is just nuts. Yeah, my whacked out love interest
left me to die in a horrible way, but she was *not* responsible for
her actions. He should be backing away from the whack job, feeling
behind himself for the door knob, and edging out of the room.

And the writers need to quit twisting characters' established
personalities to suit a momentary storyline need (such as everyone in
the alley behind Indigo blabbing about the Sheila kidnapping, which
Heather conveniently "overheard" just to jumpstart the I'm-your-father
reveal with Paul, all of which was a very cheap writing job, AFAICS,
and could have been done so much more effectively if the writers had
parceled this out over several segments instead of stuffing it down
our throats in one epi). The writers are sacrificing continuity and
history for sloppy and unimaginative writing, IMHO. They're also
taking some long established secrets/history (and I count the
Malcom-is-Lily's-father as another one) and using them like tissue
paper instead of patiently and artfully drawing a titillating
storyline/reveal.

Just sayin',
