I LOVE being outside. I know for a fact that I get down when I have
to stay inside for long stretches of time. I experienced that after
my back surgeries when I couldn't get around very well on my own for a
while. Now, when I'm out hiking with the dog, I especially appreciate
the sun and the wind and the scenery because I was without it for a
period of time.
But I'm no fool, and I know the damage the sun can cause, so it's
always with a strong SPF that I venture outside.
Again, I wasn't suggesting that people shouldn't take reasonable
precautions to reduce risk, only that there ARE worthwhile effects on
our lives derived from that sense of refreshing wonder and well-being
that being outdoors creates. Our time here is limited no matter HOW
careful we are ... to each, his own, but some deprive themselves of far
too much that they truly enjoy of wondrous life experiences because of
media hype about all these horrible consequences that scientists warn
"might" befall you. In some instances, the benefits -- to
peaceful/happier state of mind -- far outweigh the possible risks.
