Anyone catch when Neil, once again, more or less *ordered* Lily to

Yeah. Make Cane forbidden fruit. That *so* worked with Daniel,
didn't it Neil?
David, No one in Genoa City is capable of learing, it would seem
You're right of course! But Neil's behavior doesn't bother me for two
reasons.
1. He joins a long line of soap matriarchs and partriarchs who can't
stop being controlling and interfering...even though it never works
out for them. On Y&R, we have Victor and Brad as current
prototypes...and Jill sure did a lot of controlling with her boys.
Clasically, we have the BEST examples on AMC (Phoebe Tyler, Palmer
Courtland). And the #1 exemplar of this is B&B's Stephanie. So
Neil's just being a soap archetype...the controlling parent and the
reactive offspring can drive year's of story.
2. Neil also has some reasons to be a strong, overprotective father.
Lily has made CONSISTENTLY bad choices since joining the show vis-a-
vis men. And Dru alluded to bad choices being made in Paris, which is
one of the reasons she brought her daughter back to GC.
You're wise enough to know that "authoritative" parenting probably
works better than "authoritarian". But remember Neil is the man who
broke his marriage up, the first time, by insisting his wife Dru could
not work outside the house! He has a long history of having a very
rigid backbone...being a "stuffed shirt"...and so I find his behavior
with Lily utterly consistent--if not wise.
