So true! What I find most fascinating is how one's brain can write and
process its own fully-detailed story (a dream) without our conscious
help!
Yes, you can usually link it to some event or thought you had during
that day, but still ... the bizarre scenario your brain "thinks up" all
on its own without any help from you while you are sleeping is amazing
to me. I've had some VERY bizarre dreams, and I am able to recall them,
sometimes in very precise detail.
It sort of reminds me of how parrots learn phrases and then mix them up,
so they're actually correct, understandable English, though they don't
really make sense in a logical way. For example, my parrot knew all the
words to "Born to Be Wild". Sometimes she would mix up the words, but
she always mixed them up in a way that still made English sense: "Get
your motor runnin', lookin' for the highway!" Right words, wrong
combination, but still correct English. So not only do they have the
ability to repeat, but they must have SOME sense of the language, silly
as that may seem.
Anyway, that reminds me of how our brains mix up and combine
individually sensible thoughts to create bizarre scenarios ... all while
we're asleep.
