Here's the kicker: I had a root canal done on this tooth back in
early March. My regular dentist sent me to a specialist, an
endodontist, I think he was. I wonder if his work is guaranteed or if
I'll have to shell out another pocketful of money to get this fixed -
again?
I had that problem with almost all of my root canals--apparently I have
weird canals or something. I wound up having to have an apicoectomy on
pretty much every one of them. It took forever to get everything done.
Plus I have a heart murmur, so I have to take copious amount of amoxycillin
before (and back then, after) the appointment. So I was dealing with the
dental issues plus worrying that if I got, say, a strep throat that no
amount of antibiotics would cure it b/c I was already taking so many. Lucky
for me, I had terrific dental coverage back then. I still paid a fortune
out-of-pocket.
If you don't know what apicoectomy is, I would suggest you google it. Or
ask them tomorrow. If you still have pain and they don't suggest this as a
remedy, I would get a second opinion. It's a grueling procedure (definitely
one for knock-out anethesia), but it does help eventually.
Meanwhile, there's still the Percocet left over from the first root
canal 'go-round. It'll last until tomorrow, but if you read some
weird posts from me between now and then, you'll probably figure out
why ;-)

I Googled "apicoectomy" before I left for my dental appointment this
afternoon, and my dentist was duly impressed that I knew what she was
talking about ... but it was a different tooth that was giving me the
pain. 'Turns out it was the tooth next to my newly root canaled one,
which seems to be doing fine, so that's a relief.
But the problem is, the tooth that is the culprit was root canaled and
crowned well over a decade ago. The tooth is now a bit loose, has a
raging infection underneath and must come out. There's nothing else
that she can do for it, but quite frankly, I'm glad to get rid of that
thing. Because I'm always complainting about something being wrong
with that partciular tooth, it has become known amongst my family and
friends as the Tooth From Hell for a while. In fact, the very first
time I saw my current dentist was on the day before New Year's Eve
day, years ago, when every other respectible dentist was off
holiday-ing. She took me in, took care of me and my Tooth From Hell,
and I've been a patient ever since.
Next Monday is the day it comes out. Meanwhile, I have antibiotics
and more Percocets to ease my way, as it were. After it heals, I can
decide if I want or need an implant or a bridge or maybe even nothing
... we'll see.
Maybe with all this pain medicine in me, I can watch ATWT again! :-)

My husband had a Tooth from Hell removed a year and a half ago and
he's been meaning to get a bridge, but the missing tooth doesn't
really bother him and the dentist isn't pushing him to get one. It
seems like something he should do, logically, but maybe it's not a big
deal.
Glad to hear you'll be getting some resolution soon. Clearing up the
infection should help your discomfort a bit, I'd guess.
