It doesn't work as well as AOL did.
Still, I've never been able to make any of Donna's suggestions work.
Can you afford $14 a *year* for a reliable news service that allows you to use
your choice of newsreader [i.e. Mozilla based, IE, Agent, etc.]?
I can afford it, yes. Is it simple to set up and use?
Yes... definitely to use, and setup... at least, using a Mozilla based
newsreader. I'm pretty sure it is with the other newsreaders as well. They
have the instructions on their web site on how to set it up, as well as
everything else you need to know.
What is "a Mozilla based newsreader"?
Mozilla, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, or older Netscape mail/newsreaders.

This is why I use Google. I don't know what those are. I use Mozilla
Firefox as a browser. Does that have anything to do with newsgroups?

No, Thunderbird is the mail/newsreader that people who use Firefox usually use. If you are interested, you would download Thunderbird [which is free], just as you did Firefox. Some people like these separate applications, which effectively replaced Netscape programs [after AOL ownership trashed NS].

I use SeaMonkey, because it is a *combined* browser and mail/newsreader as Netscape was, which I am accustomed to, and prefer. It's very similar to the separate applications, it's just a matter of taste.

Give one of them a try, I think you'll be very surprised and happy with the filters, etc., and ease of use.
