Donna, I wonder if his claim about groups.google.com is an "evidence-
based" on, formed on the basis of a recent interaction with the new
interface?
It is based on a few facts which have been true for many years. The primary
purpose of Google Groups is not for reading & posting but for archiving.
Google Groups does not adhere to Usenet standards. Voila. Examples can be
given as needed.
For those considering options, I'd encourage you to make up your own
mind, rather than accept that groups.google.com is "undesirable".
People ask for advice. Other people give it. In very brief form I outlined the
potential choices. Of course, people are going to make up their own minds!
A good newsreader allows users to set them up the way they want, far beyond
your Google Groups example of bundling. Bundling is not even a Usenet term.
Presumably you're speaking of threading.
It really ain't bad. I would encourage people to explore it with an
open mind.
It's really awful. I use it only when I absolutely have to, when my regular
access is unavailable or when I'm on the road or when I need to check it for
some other user. Yes, I am a Google Groups subscriber - and I have been one as
long as it existed, since I was a subscriber of it in the prior 2 names it
had, as well!
