DA's office, Which makes his disrespect towards her at that hearing
even worse. One more thing. If John's competence can be questioned, I
would really like to see Jack argue that Gloria is even more mentally
incompetent, and she should receive a small monthly allowance but
nothing more. And certainly no decision making powers not in her
obviously diminished capacity. As much as I can't stand the goldigging
Gloria, I have to agree with you, what Jack did showed total
disregard and disrespect for John. I hate Gloria also, as much as
Jack does, but regardless of that, John loved the woman. That is
what Jack does not seem to understand. John couldn't have made it more
clear when he was living, how much he loved Gloria. John wanted to
provide for her, he would be horrified if he knew what Jack is doing
to her right now. John knew what he wanted, and he could leave his
money to whomever he wanted. Maybe he felt that he had provided for
his grown children their whole life, and he wanted to make sure that
Gloria would never have to worry about money again. Whatever his
reason, his wishes should be honored. He left them the house that
they grew up in, and a substantial amount of money and shares in Jabot
, but that is not enough for his greedy children. I can understand
their not wanting to share the house anymore, and at this point, the
way they get along -- or DON'T get along, I should say -- it would be
better for Gloria and Kevin to not live with Jack and Ashley. Even in
the old will (e.g. the REAL will), John left the house to his kids, so
Glo and Kevin would have needed to find new digs anyway. HOWEVER, the
thing to do would have been to have had a discussion and for Jack and
Trashley to say, "The house is legally ours now, and we don't want to
live with you anymore, and we would like you to find another place to
live by next week." For crying out loud, even in apartments, if a
tenant doesn't pay their rent, landlords cannot simply throw them onto
the street. They ahve to serve them notice and then go to court. That's
absurd.
It's not even about Gloria at this point. I agree with you, nina.
Taking advantage of your own FATHER at the end of his life when he's
deteriorating mentally is lower than low. In fact, I'd say Jack Abbott
has hit rock bottom and is starting to dig. I mentioned in another
post that if strokes run in the Abbott family I think Jack is headed
for one. I believe John was about Jack's age when he had his first.
Ashley is looking mighty worried about her big brother. It wouldn't
surprise me one bit if she uncovered the truth and told it to the
judge. As aggravated as I am at Aunt Jack I did have to chuckle at the
ending scene when Gloria discovered her things packed in garbage bags
and Jack dangling the house key on the other side of the locked door.
Say, I have an idea--I think Ashley and the other Abbott sibs ought to
purchase a big old private island for Gloria and Jack where they can
live in penury together, which is exactly what these two schemers
deserve.
Maybe it is the writers way of making Gloria look better, but it's not
at all changing my opinion of Gloria. However, it has totally changed
my opinion of Jack. He's done some slimy stuff, that's for sure. But
this is the worst. He's ruined. John death is the start by KILLING OFF
one of its most beloved 25-year veteran characters, aren't they? Boring
as John could be, obviously many viewers LIKED that he was there, part
of the show, a backbone of one of the core families. Most of us that
are complaining are comparing the Y&R to itself, to its prior high
standards. Of course they've always made mistakes, had failures and
stories they'd like to forget. But there were certain things you could
always count on them for. Now we even have people saying they're
hanging in there just to see "how much worse it can possibly get"! If I
were LML, I wouldn't take that as a compliment. Then again, I doubt she
cares; she's laughing all the way to the bank. When someone new takes
over anything, if the results are bringing a lot of angry,
dissatisfied, long-time customers into the Complaint Department, it's a
huge mistake to ACCEPT that those *long-time* customers don't matter
and you can still rejoice because there are MORE dissatisfied customers
in the building next door. Long-time happy customers are not to be
undervalued in any successful endeavor, and the complacent "hey, we
don't NEED them anyway" attitude has been the downfall of bigger
successes than the Y&R. I hate to see the Y&R goes this route, but
that's what I see. Word-of-mouth buzz is that John Abbott is being
killed off. The death of any character that has been on a soap for that
long always brings back *some* eyeballs for a time. Where's the
evidence that new people are tuning in because word-of-mouth buzz is
and "masterful" than prior Y&R storytellers?
