Rumors are flying about who the show will be killing off in its serial
killer plot. It has been reported that at least four characters will
die. Where the rumors come in is that one of the names mentioned is

As far as losing Tom, I'd be sorry to lose the old Tom, but of late he
hasn't been much of anything - and I have to admit that I've liked the
relationship between Hal and Margo in the past.

My problem is that Tom shouldn't be relegated to not "much of
anything" lately. I think losing Tom would be like losing Kim or Bob
or Nancy. He doesn't have to have story (though I want him to), but
he needs to be in Oakdale.

Granted, Tom (best of all, with Margo) is the heir apparent to the
essential role of older, consistent character, first (in my memory)
played by Nancy and Chris Hughes, now by Bob and Kim. But lately soaps
haven't been so concerned about the long-term histories,
unfortunately. And if you're going to have a serial killer, which is
kind of a tedious thing to have, but if you're going to, you've got to
kill off someone who actually matters, not just peripheral people.

True, you have to have some sacrifices to make the story have any
impact, but I'd rather they kill off Emily, who's been written into a
corner. It seems like her future storyline will be fighting with Paul
over the baby, while she also fights with Dusty, who fights with Lucy
over Jen's care, etc, etc.

Many people have mentioned Jade, but you did say that you've got to
kill off someone who actually matters!

If the rumours indicate four characters, who might be some other
choices?

There are characters that some of us here might knock off (Carly,
Katie, Mike, Lily), but those are popular characters with many
viewers, apparently. They can't just knock off all the vets, let's
hope. The teens have been very popular, so that would be foolish. I
wouldn't mind killing off Lucy, but there'd be no point in bringing
her on to kill her off, so that's unlikely. Simon's girl could go, Hal
might as well be killed off, for all they've given him to do, but
unless there are some actors wanting out, I'm not sure I could name 4
likely people.
