Y&R has been doing all kinds of different things visually lately. In
addition to this bit of realism (closing doors), they've been showing
hand washing (Sharon and Phyllis), exterior hallway at Jabot and Newman
in which people (extras) actually walk. Even the basketball shooting
on Friday with Daniel, Lily and Noah was a new set...and the kind of
realistic activity people at that age might do together (rather than
gather at the Athletic Club). The Athletic Club set--a hub which
dominated in every storyline for two years, ostensibly as cost
savings--has given way to people being situated again in realistic
settings, now with realistic actions. Jeanne Cooper said in one
interview that the actors moved so much now, they all had to wear body
mikes (not just boom mikes used anymore).
I attribute this to (a) extra $$ from the Soapnet license, and (b) a
push for more movement and realism from new headwriter Lynn Marie
Latham.
