1. Is 'Oprah' Bad For The Brain?
'Oprah' may be bad for the brain, according to a surprising new study of
the effects of TV viewing on brain function.
Done by researchers at New York's Brooklyn College, the study found that
elderly women who watch daytime soap operas and talk shows are more
likely to suffer from cognitive impairment than women who don't watch them.
There's definitely "something going on with those two types of
television programming," said study co-author Joshua Fogel, an assistant
professor of behavioral sciences at Brooklyn College of the City
University of New York.
I would be ashamed to publish such research! I file these findings
under "BS." I think we who watch soaps are more intelligent than those
who don't. We've seen enough relationships go awry on our shows to be
able to call them in real life. Non-soap watchers are often clueless.
I think it's the difference between paying attention and sleep-walking
through the show(s). If you're not of an alert state of mind, there's
no help for ya, regardless of what you watch/don't watch on the boob
tube!
David, zzzzz.... huh?... whazzat???...zzzz....zzzz
