As a professional massage therapist, I know that a *huge* percentage of
men are profoundly uncomfortable about getting a massage from a male
therapist, even though he's trained, doing specifically therapeutic work,
and they know, intellectually, that it's not a sexual thing. From that, I
extrapolate that "just pals" giving each other back rubs is something that
the vast majority of straight men would find so uncomfortable as to be
undoable.
Anyway, "Want a backrub?" is a time-honored come-on.

For the few months that we've seen Luke and Kevin hanging out
as friends and the writers have been evolving this gay plot, I've
been trying to decide if Kevin is even gay??? At first I thought
that it was going to be Luke's unrequited love as the story line,
but then I kept noticing that it was Kevin who was doing
the pushing...it was his idea for the back rub, at the rooftop
party he was with NO ONE, not even an arm around a
no-name girl...so by now I'm thinking that Kevin is gay, too,
and that the story will be them both realizing that together,
which (gosh this is a run-on sentence!) would be more true
of what tennagers would be going through as they discover
this about themselves....
True, you would expect Kevin to at least be shown talking to a girl,
if only to show Luke's reaction, but it's possible that Kevin's so
embarassed about his family life that he doesn't want to open up
enough to let a girl into his life. Maybe he's only comfortable with
Luke, who already knows. His behavior is consistent with a straight
guy who's keeping his problems a secret. It's also consistent with a
guy who isn't really aware that he is gay AND consistent with a gay
guy who's keeping it a secret even from Luke, who he may or may not
realize is gay. They have enough loopholes to go any direction they
want, I think.
But where is the story going then? Their just gay and Lily is
convinced its all her fault? Did breaking her deal with Keith
turn Kevin gay, too?????
Yes, where does the story go then? I wouldn't mind seeing it play out
that Kevin is not gay and that he walks away from Luke's friendship,
too, temporarily. That's also a believable story. My neice was
Luke's age when she went through exactly that, falling in love with
her best female friend, who was not gay and their friendship
eventually disinegrated, too.
