My daughter had a large mole on her back. She kept watching it and it was
going through some changes that were making her nervous.

She saw her doctor, who assured her that it was fine but that she *could*
remove it and have it biopsied if it really bothered her. Daughter said
"Yes. Do that."

Doctor pointed out that it was a fairly large mole and that it was probably
going to leave something of a scar when it was removed. Might not want that
scar. Located in a place where it is covered by even most bathing suits.

Daughter said "Let's see - right now there's a rather large mole there.
Balance that off with a possible scar. Is there really a clearcut argument
for vanity here?"

And, yes, the mole biopsied perfectly normal. And there is a little scar.
But daughter is no longer checking it every day and worrying about it.

But you just have to wonder about the thought processes of some doctors and
nurses. And probably also of some patients.
