Many of us have remarked over recent years about how the moral compass of AMC
seems to have become...er...faulty. We had Tad fabricating evidence to make
Brooke's murder of Jim Thomasen seem more palatable; we had Tad's murder of
Greg Madden; we have the Martins _endless_ tweaking of the local legal system
to their benefit. I lean heavily on the Martins, but it's others, too -- it's just that the Martins DID used to be the moral center of the show, so
their faults seem more glaring than, say, Zach's or Ryan's.

Today, I think I hit my limit. It's really been upsetting to me the lengths
Jake and Amanda have gone to in order to keep David away from his child.
We've seen people do this before, thinking they were in the right -- Dixie
tried to keep Junior from Adam, Liza certainly kept Colby from Adam for
_years_. But today something in me just *snapped* when I heard Opal whine,
"But you know, now they think that maybe David has his hands on that baby,
and if he does -- ugh! -- God help us all!"

"God help us all"? Isn't that a little melodramatic? I mean, what do they
think David would DO to his child? Eat it? Sell it into white slavery? Put
cigarettes out on its arms and legs? What history does he have that SHOWS
that he's bad for his children? None! He's never had the opportunity to
raise ANY of his children. And for these people, these _Martins_, to just
unilaterally decide that David shouldn't have the right to know his own child
-- particularly after he's suffered so many losses where his children are
concerned -- is just cruel, and unwarranted. Who died and made them God?
They may not like some of the things David does, but he's a grownup, with a
very good job, plenty of resources to care for a child, sober, etc. etc. I
just cannot fathom the level of unmitigated _gall_ of these people!

I agree with you with one minor exception. David didn't want 'access' to this child. He wanted to take the child and exclude him from Amanda's life.

She isn't/wasn't reacting to the possibility of shared custody, but to the very real threat that David would go to any lengths to take the baby away from her permanently. Even if it meant killing her.

Its not like she was jumping to some unwarranted conclusion. He flat out threatened her constantly.

That said, they are all acting like irresponsible idiots.
