I don't like to nitpick, especially since we're in the replacement
writers' era. But
with the potential mob war around the corner and the text message strangler
still on the loose, it would be an odd time to allow the two to go off
on their own.

Just another one of those little inconsistencies that drive us all crazy!
Yes, really, you'd think with one or two serial killers running around Port
Charles, reputedly looking for vengeance against Sonny, that there would be
body guards all around Sonny's kids...but then if there were, they couldn't
have concocted the scheme to swindle their grandfather out of money so
Michael can buy a gun.
ITA!! i'm wondering who will be "accidently" shot by michael...
