AMC: Spike's Deafness

I had a feeling he was going to end up being deaf.
In some ways I don't think it's that awful. I grew up legally blind and
hanging around with other blind children, and we all were born that way and
just dealt with it. Spike's deafness - if it's the
"neural-conductive-whatever" thing that Annie mentioned - could just become
part of who he is. Maybe they'll have him speaking in sign language as he
grows up. That could be interesting. :)
On the other hand, as my husband and I have discussed, if we had a child and
could pick which affliction they'd have - deafness or blindness - I'd choose
blindness, because I put more value on sound than sight. I want my child to
hear my voice more than I want them to look me in the eye.
I don't think they should overplay Kendall's heartbreak. Deafness might be
hard to cope with, but at least your kid is.. well, alive.
