The only explanation I can think of for the scene to be staged that way is
that the actress isn't well enough to actually appear in the scene. Does
anyone have any news about her? I'm concerned.
Zach and Myrtle are so fantastic together, so it's a shame she can't be
there during this crucial storyline.

I thought the same thing when he got that message. It made me worried
that her health was too frail to allow her to be there. You are
right, it would have been a great scene when Zach finally did cry if
Myrtle was there with him. She was probably the only person (other
than kendall) that he'd allow to see him that vulnerable.
