So, I have been faithfully DVRing Ryan's Hope since it returned to daily
viewings at 5-6am. Well, a funny thing happened this week. We hit the last
episode of 1981 and suddenly, we are back to the premiere episode from
1976.
You know, many people complained that in the early 1980s the show became
"Kirkland's Hope" but I still wanted to see that and I wanted to see how
the other stories, which I have now followed TWICE, were going to wrap up.
Like the Mummy storyline, the paralyzed soap veteran storyline, and Joe
and Siobhan, but no, SoapNet for some reason stopped it again. I know they
have access to all of them, and for many years when they did the St.
Patrick's Day marathon, they would show episodes through 1989.
I am not going to watch RH again for a third time, as enjoyable as it
always was. I guess the headline would read something like this: "SoapNet
to Classic Soap Fans: Drop Dead!"

Seth, a poster to the SoapNet message board for Ryan's Hope got to the
bottom of it. Believe it or not, she called Claire Labine. Apparently they
started using pop music during 1981, and it is cost prohibitive to pay the
royalties. Check out the Ryan's Hope message board for the full scoop. I
agree, it was ridiculous to stop airing right in the middle of the big
Egyptian storyline, however, I am still grateful they are continuing to air
RH. I haven't seen these episodes since the original airing in 1975!
Also check YouTube.com. They have quite a few episodes on there. I watched
the final episode from 1989 on Friday. It was great!
