I have 6 sons, all born by C section. Before each one, I let it be
known that if something were to go wrong they were to concentrate on
the baby, not me. I'm no religious zealot and I believe in a woman's
right to choose. My choice was my child. My mother didn't like my
decision. She insisted that my other children needed two parents and I
could always have other children. My reply was that their father loved
them very much, would always do what was best for them and he could
always remarry. There were enough people in their lives to love and
care for them. I had my life and would not deprive my child a chance
of living his.

My husband understood. He didn't really like it and I don't think he
totally agreed with me, but he understood and did agree that it was my
decision to make. I also think that if he had been in my place, he
would have made the same decision.

So, while I find Kendall's transformation into loving mother a little
too quick, I do understand and don't find this at all unbelievable.

Seems to me that it all depends on whether a person believes that the soul
that would have inhabited that baby gets another shot if they don't get born
that time. If one believes that's their only chance to have a life -
period - it seems that the choice would naturally go for the baby being
saved. On the other hand, if you think the kid could just try again with
another body later on, it isn't nearly as much of a crisis. Points to
ponder... :-) <<

I _do_ happen to believe in reincarnation, however, I reject the premise that
only the promise of reincarnation would make someone choose their own life
over the life of the fetus or baby (depending on where in the gestational
timeline we're talking about). I can say without reservation that in no case
I can think of would I tell my husband and doctors, "concentrate on saving
the baby - forget about me." In a case where I had other children, I'd be
concerned about the effect of my death on them; in a case where I had no
other children, I'd opt for trying again with my husband at a later time, or
adopting.

I'm sure this sounds cold to many, but I value and respect the effort
God/des/s/ses went to in giving me this gift of life, and have put far too
much into it to squander it now!
