As I was watching Greenlee look adoringly at Ryan and getting nauseous, I was
SO relieved when they switched the scene to Jack, and he reminded Erica how
Ryan had raised his closed fist to Greenlee on that security tape. But then
it all turned to disappointment when Erica replied, "But he didn't hit her."
That is SO the wrong message! And usually ABC makes a concerted effort to be
socially responsible - or at least they did in the past. I really wish that
if they had always intended to keep Ryan around as the town hero, they hadn't
done that fist-raising scene, because it really is unforgiveable and a sign
of deeper, still-unresolved problems. There should at least be some
counseling for Ryan, and Greenlee shouldn't have a look of adoration and
ecstasy on her face when Ryan reminds her of his violence. Heck, Greenlee
herself ought to get some counseling for that whole
rooking-Ryan-into-having-children scheme.
It's like I said in another message - the people in Pine Valley are being
written like battered women: "Oh, he won't hurt me again." "He didn't mean
it." "It's my fault for never making his dinner right." They're all just
turning a blind eye to Ryan's disgusting behavior.
I have to tell you, that whole batch of interaction (Greenlee/Ryan,
Erica/Jack) in the first quarter of the show made me absolutely sick. They
have about 45 minutes left to redeem themselves. If Jack gets shouted down
over this, I'll be _very_ disappointed - he and Zach seem to be the only ones
who see the real Ryan.
