I used the New King James for many years. It is probably the closest
to the King James. It basically just changes the "thee" and "thou"s
into "you" and "yours". If you want a little more modern than that, I
would suggest the NIV. My husband has one, and I've been reading it
instead of my NKJ lately. Same message but in fairly plain, modern
English, without reverting to slang or anything like that.
