Faux stone wall

Looking to build a fake stone wall/gate for an entrance to a nativity
play at church. Need a good source for info. When I google fake
wall/faux wall I end up with home decorating type tips, which are much
more detailed and elaborate than I am looking for. I need more of a
stage scenery technique.

I plan on using pink insulation/foamcore as a starting point, then I
have a number of white styrofoam packing type bricks that I am
thinking i can glue to pink sheets then paint entire thing.
