I think that's the problem. You can perform theatre with a budget of Zero
upwards. Without knowing what yuo want to achieve in the space it's
impossible to estimate. Before you've spent anything on our toys you've
got to buy the emegency lighting, fire alarm/extinguishers, emergencey
exits , toilets & chaiirs just to get the audience in.

Or, put another way, I can give you a budget right now: $1,027,416.32

Unfortunately, it will be about 3 months before I can tell you what you will
be getting for that money.

I'm sure that I'm not alone in having been stung in the past with "a quick
budgetary estimate...don't put too much time into it" turning into a fixed
budget that you have to live within. If forced to give a guesstimate, you
have two equally unpalatable choices. You either pad the number so much for
eventualities that you risk killing the project, or risk forgetting things
and not having sufficient funds to complete the job. Far better to be
honest and say that a budget needs to be done properly.

In this case, if you add in other imponderables such as the international
nature of this group (construction costs can vary widely), differences in
local regulations, and the sketchy information we have about what is to be
included in the project, and it becomes impossible to provide meaningful
help.

All we can do is create lists of "don't forget to think about" items...and
this is what I've seen done.
