Was this classic, one that's been filmed several times, ever done in MT
form?
Best
LT, reminded by a delightful snippet of its immortal theme, and the
memory of Ingrid B.
Not to my knowledge. I saw Bergman on Broadway in THE CONSTANT WIFE
which had a very short life. I loved it, though.
Goes to show that a play's 'longevity' has nothing to do with quality.
-Never did.
LT,
recalling a similarly titled work by R. Strauss; fictionalized from an
episode in his own life.
The film I initially referred to was remade several times after
Bergman's two versions.
Best one I recall was with the great actor, Oskar Werner, and re-named
as 'Interlude'.
Werner: an actor I liked and wish we'd seen more of.
-------
An excellent musician, also, in his own right.
Didn't he supply his own playing in 'Interlude'? [IIRC]
----------
I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did.

-Differing from Leslie Howard's participation; unable to play the
violin, he stood with arms at sides, while a couple of professional
violinists' arms alongside his face/neck were photographed as they
played the solos, to convincing effect.

I am a Nobody.
Nobody is Perfect.
Therefore I am Perfect.- Hide quoted text -

Best,
LT,
-never an objector to 'lip-synching', either, in films, especially when
the voice did belong to the singer on-camera.- Hide quoted text -

I watched a film today on TCM based on a Vicki Baum (GRAND HOTEL) novel,
in which Maureen O'Hara sang for herself. (Check out her cast recording
of CHRISTINE.) Gloria Grahame was dubbed, and Melvyn Douglas did some
good, if brief, faking as a pianist. Grahame's OKLAHOMA! co- star Jay C.
Flippen also had a major role.- Hide quoted text -
I first heard Maureen O's legit, really beautiful singing voice on a
now-ancient Perry Como show!
The voice matched her appearance.
Ingrid, like Douglas, made the correct manual motions in 'Intermezzo',
though not actually playing, either.
Flippen was in, IIRC, 'Ensign O'Toole and Me', a '60s sitcom, way back
when!

Wasn't Maureen in the TV HIGH BUTTON SHOES with Jack Cassidy, Carol
Lawrence, and Garry Moore?

Yep! I only caught part of the show, unfortunately....
