No wonder the U.N.repeatedly names Norway as the best country in the
world to live in.

Yeah. Why don't you go there. I'll even hold the door for you!

That's one response, I guess. Another might be: Why don't we all work
towards making our government more enlightened and caring? If you've
pride in your country, you'd want the "best country" designation to go
to US.

The USA already has the "best country" designation in my book. Allowing the UN to designate the "best country" is like asking the class retard for the answers on your SAT. Of course, if you are the other class retard (Bushwhacker) you might be stupid enough to ask your retard friend for the answers.

Let's see, apparently Bushwhacker likes the idea of drilling for oil as this is Norway's big profit maker. Why then do BW's Democrats keep standing in the way of US drilling operations?
Of course, Norway takes a huge chunk of their oil money and puts it away to "save". Yet they still tax their citizens relentlessly on gas, resulting in Norway's people paying over $7 a gallon for gas! (And if you want me to "prove" it BW, as you usually do, try checking out the site that you linked in your post! Dumbass!)
Oh, if only we were more like Norway! I would love to spend $130 a week to fill up my tank!
Norway remained "neutral" during both world wars! YEAH! If only we were more like Norway, as Bushwhacker the class retard wants, we could have just stood by while Europe fell to the bad guys! TWICE!

Said Gordon Sinclair, a Toronto television commentator:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States."

What did NORWAY do for them BW?

"When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans..

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those. 'Stand proud, America!'"

By the way, he said this back in the 80s. Since then we have saved Kuwait from an Iraqi invasion, brought down the regime of Saddam Hussain, turned the tables on Gaddafi and forced him to give up his WMDs, focred the Taliban out of Afghanistan and provided billions of dollars in aid to countries suffering tragedies around the world.
What has Norway, or for that matter the friggin UN done???

The Sinclair piece is a load of semi-informed, rabble-rousing old wank.
It's brain-dead tub-thumping of the worst kind (and its wide
circulation, post-9/11, was stunningly inappropriate, given that the
victims of the attacks hailed from all over the world).

As for the USA leading the world in offering aid and succour - it's not
*that* many months since we all saw extensive, graphic footage of the
(mostly poorer) inhabitants of a large American city being,
essentially, left to fend for themselves following a major natural
disaster (and, you know, really, if CNN could get there, why couldn't
FEMA?).

Stephen

Or a better question: If FOX NEWS could get there, why couldn't mayor Nagin (who was hiding out in a hotel room right near the convention center) or Governor BLANKo ? They are in charge of the first responders and they are the ones who failed their community. Yet the idiot citizens of N.O. still re-elected Nagin! Unfuckingbelievable!
The beautiful city of New Orleans, ( with 53 murders a year per 100,000 citizens, making it almost as dangerous as downtown Baghdad, and a poverty rate reaching almost 30%, more than double the national level) deserves better than the Democratic idiots in control there.

Quite possibly - the lousy federal response doesn't excuse the lousy
local response - but beside the point: the monumentally inadequate
federal response to Katrina was viewed around the world with a mixture
of horror, disbelief and scorn. Those of us who live in developed,
first-world nations outside the USA will pretty much *all* tell you
that, whatever our country of origin, it is inconceivable that our
government would leave its poorest citizens to fend for themselves in
the wake of such a disaster. Certainly it would never happen in
Britain.

As for the murder rate in New Orleans, that's totally irrelevant to the
discussion.

Stephen

THe murder rate and poverty rate in N.O is very relevant to the discussion.

Really? How, exactly, did the murder rate in New Orleans impede the
federal government in its (pathetically inadequate) attempts to
provide aid following Hurricane Katrina?

Hmmm, how about THUGS SHOOTING AT RESCUE WORKERS!!?!??!?!?!?!!?!???!!!!??! DUH!!!

I said further up this thread - and said at the time - that the
inadequate local response didn't excuse or mitigate the inadequate
federal response, and, actually, this particular issue *isn't*
particularly about Republican vs. Democrat.

Wrong! It is INDEED about Democratic vs Republican philosophy. The democrats want to create a society of DEPENDANTS, people who rely on the federal government for their very existance. New Orleans is a PERFECT picture of that philosophy brought to fruition. No such thing as being self-sufficient in the Democratic approach to life. No rugged individualism allowed. The government is your teat and as long as we keep the milk flowing you will continue to vote for us. Which is why the democrats really want to give all the illegals a fast track to citizenship; new democratic voters. The problem is, all us productive citizens will be taxed to death (and beyond) in order to keep the goverment teat flowing! And we're SICK of it!

It's about people in
positions of responsibility not doing their jobs. Nagin and Blanco's
response might well have been less than stellar, but their failings do
not excuse Bush's and Mike Brown's.

Well, Nagin and BLANKo think the Bush administration's response excuses THEIR pitiful response. Have Nagin or BLANCO taken ANY responsibility for the disaster that is their community? If so, please provide me with the links. I would love to hear them take some responsibility for what happned in THEIR communities, instead of just passing the buck!
