Re: Does a "jukebox show" have the "Best Musical" Tony in the bag?

And I'd forgotten about The Wedding Singer, which would also benefit
from Tony laurels.

In our lifetimes, we've witnessed an evolution. Used to be, reviews
("Smashing" - New York Times) and awards could attract audiences around
the country. Now, there's many a show (THE FOUR SEASONS' "JERSEY
BOYS". WALT DISNEY'S "TARZAN" WITH SONGS BY PHIL COLLINS. JOHNNY
CASH'S RING OF FIRE. ELTON JOHN'S "LESTAT." OPRAH WINFREY'S "THE COLOR
PURPLE") that doesn't rely on subjective acclaim. While many have
decried the infamous "power of The Times" it's hard to see this as a
change for the better, considering the shows.
