I saw it. Overall, I thought it was a well done film.
Considering how slow the pace was, I was surprised I stayed awake.
The film was okay for what it was, though I was annoyed to see two
adulterers presented as sympathetic characters for the sole reason
that they are gay and are hiding that fact from their spouses
because, apparently, they're conflicted about their sexuality. If
the same situation were presented with heterosexual characters, they
would both come off as real shits. Imagine if Ledger's character
were straight and a female "friend" of his from his past suddenly
shows up, his wife observes the friend embrace Ledger's character in
a passionate kiss right in front of Ledger's home, and then Ledger
immediately announces that he's going off for a few days with his
old female friend. Pretty crappy behavior, and terribly callous
toward their families.
Um, I think you missed the whole point of the film - if they were open
about their sexuality in that place at that time, the would be dead.
And Jack wasn't killed changing his tire. He pushed the sexual
envelope (presumably because Ledger woudn't commit to living
together) and his more careless sexual activity led to his murder.
Moral - homophobia hurts everybody, especially the wives and families
that are lied to.
