I think my point is even more forceful if the analogy is the luncheonette.
When I hear someone using abusive language loudly in a public place, I
assume he is either disturbed or drunk; such patrons are often asked to
behave or leave by the proprietors. Even in some fairly rough bars, I have
seen patrons or bartenders ask an abusive speaker to tone it down.
Amazingly, the speaker is sometimes shamed into doing so.
