right, but was immensely disappointed since it could have been so much
better.
I had a tear in my eye at the end, but considering I cried for an hour
and a half straight at the movie

I sure felt they were missing something. I couldn't believe Celie didn't
sing "And I'm Telling You I AM Going" (or some such thing) upon leaving
Mister ... it seemed the authors didn't know where songs should be
placed (many of them just stopped the show, and not in a good way.) It
was structured a bit like Show Boat, with mediocre music, if you can
imagine that (Show Boat was a wonderful, wonderful show, especially for
its time, but you wouldn't set out to structure a new musical that way
nowadays, I hope!)

Even the blocking seemed odd to me, and the ending was downright
terrible.
I'd been afraid it would be filled with catchy pop hits (given the
creators) that lacked depth, but instead the score was essentially wan
for the most part...
