No, they're not--- I've posted a message about "The Drowsy Chaperone"
FOUR TIMES and it's never come through (over a period of about two
weeks.)

No. It's been there FOUR TIMES. It was getting redundant.

I've noticed a bunch of strange threads in various groups that make it
appear that some posts may not be going through promptly. Replies showing
up a week later, people answering a question that was answered days before,
etc. Too many to be explained by nutty posters, I think.

There are inconsistencies among news servers for all the different ISP's out there. Unless you subscribe directly to Usenet (which I don't know if you can do anymore) it is not uncommon for posts to get hung up or just plain dropped in the ether. I use two different ISP's - one at work and one at home and I frequently see posts on one that do not appear on another. I love it when I see replies before the original post appears (if it ever does, that is). that really makes the case for quoting the post you reply to.

That's happened to me. I see a reply, think "Wha??" then see the original post (usually). It's mildly annoying, like top-posting. Or very annoying, like not quoting. Why do so many damn email programs automatically put the reply cursor *above* the original message, and often don't designate the original message with carets or some symbol? No wonder so many people are clueless about netiquette.

You can generally control that in your preferences. But I suspect that some people may not know that.

Neither AOL nor Outlook (at least in their webmail versions) have such an option that I can find. And since they're two of the biggies, it's little wonder than top-posting is becoming prevalent. I've actually had people ask me why I post below their message. One dolt didn't read far enough and thought I had sent her same message back to her.
