Mostly space shots, but they punched up the brightness when Lenore's
stretching against the windows and teasing Kirk about the ship's
"surging, throbbing power." That's 1960s TV innuendo for you.

Dr. Tom Leighton lives on Planet Q, which may win the prize for Least
Creative Trek Planet Name. Honestly, the writers just weren't trying.
"Alfa 177," "Alpha III," "Beta VII-A," "Psi 2000" -- hey, Psi 2000's
not in this list.

Lt. Kevin Riley ended up as Adm. Kirk's aide in the "Lost Years"
novels, and was in the diplomatic corps by the time of _Probe_, a
sequel to "Star Trek IV."
The premise of this ep only makes sense in a pre-DNA-matching world.
"The body alleged to be Kodos was burned beyond recognition." Well,
maybe that means the teeth were powdered and all the DNA denatured. Or
at least that Federation Central didn't keep identification records
(beyond photos) on governing officials of colony worlds.
And it's another obsession for Kirk (or rather, the first one --
"Obsession" was 2.13), leading to his violation of Starfleet's
schedule for the ship. I wonder how he explained this one? Presumably
somebody's in charge of tracing serial killers, but it wouldn't be
Starfleet's exploration wing.
Why is it that all the photos in TOS were so awful? Like DMV photos,
shot in front of bland white backgrounds. Unlike "Amok Time," it
looks like the RM'ing didn't involve modifying those pics.
There's a good reason for that. See below.
Note that the recovery teams to Tarsus IV were from "Earth," not the
Federation. This being mid-first season, the writers probably still
weren't sure about humanity's political organization.
Also on that point: McCoy offers Spock a drink, and Spock refuses:
"my father's species was spared the dubious effects of alcohol."
"Well, that explains why they were conquered," replies McCoy. An odd
thing to say, even without later information.
On Lenore's tour of the ship, Kirk shows her the "observation deck"
which overlooks the "flight deck" (not "docking bay" or "shuttlebay").
It abuts the outer hull, since it has windows with stars moving
outside.
This episode was the last before the dreaded decision by NBC and at the
time, the suits were leading toward cancellation of the series; a step they
would actually take two seasons later. The budget was almost literally a
shoestring. Paramount wasn't even certain if this episode would see
air-time.
